Words and Music Volume One Page 3
Warm up to me and I’ll warm right up to you
Warm up to me easy, baby
Warm up to me slow, yeah
Warm up to me nice and tight
And I won’t never let go
Girl you gotta warm up (warm up baby)
Warm up (warm up baby)
Warm up to me and I’ll warm right up to you
You warm up like a 57 Chevy
You warm up like a V8 Ford
You warm up like a Coup De-Ville
When you warm up to my load
Girl you gotta warm up (warm up baby)
Warm up (warm up baby)
Warm up to me and I’ll warm right up to you
I wrote this poem as part of a college paper which was very well received by my professor so I figure it should be included in this collection for sentimental reasons if nothing else.
WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND
What’s on your mind?
What’s on your mind?
You can tell me?
You can tell me?
What’s on your mind?
Is it the past and the bed of your shadows?
Or is it today and the road that seems narrow?
Or is it the day that you’ll fly like a sparrow?
Too small to be seen on the wings of your dreams, or on the point of an arrow
What’s on your mind?
What’s on your mind?
Can’t you tell me?
Can’t you tell me?
What’s on your mind?
Did you ever have a difficult decision to make that you were convinced would totally chart the course of your life? And even though we are often 99% sure of which direction we are going in, giving up that last one percent of doubt is never very easy.
ALMOST ON MY WAY
Woke up this morning
Almost on my way
Mixing up my future
And take it, come what may
The sun has yet to rise
The moon has yet to sink
I wake in the morning
And I don’t know what to think
Almost on my way
I’m almost on my way
What I find when I get there
Who on Earth can say?
I’ve got to make decisions
The clock is winding down
The answer’s held within my hands
My heart begins to pound
Uncertainty is fact
Facts are so uncertain
When I get to where I’m going
My heart it won’t be hurtin’
Almost on my way
I’m almost on my way
What I find when I get there
Who on Earth can say?
I don’t know what I’m saying
I don’t know what I’m doing
Almost on my way
Before my life’s in ruins
Gotta be on my way my friend
Before I change my mind
And when I get to where I’m going
Who knows what I’ll find?
Almost on my way
I’m almost on my way
What I find when I get there
Who on Earth can say?
…and I’m never coming back
I’m never coming back
I’m never, ever, ever
Ever coming back
Did you ever have someone in your life who hurt you so badly that you almost wanted to die?
LETHAL INJECTION
Should have never let you know how much I cared for you
I tell you that I love you and this is what you do?
Leave me behind, just when I needed you the most
Your memory haunts me just like a fuckin’ ghost
Should have never let you get the upper hand
Next thing I know, you were in command
You tortured me with that look in your eyes
Life in prison when you said goodbye
Well I don’t know if I committed a crime
All I know is that I’m doing the time
And I don’t know if I can take another day
So listen to me girl, ‘cause this is all I have to say
Come on and poison me with your lethal injection
I wanna overdose on your wicked love
If I gotta die, then I wanna die
With a smile on my face…and a tear in my eye
Should have never let you always get your way
I wouldn’t be in such a mess today
You locked me up for my own protection
When all I ever wanted was a little bit of direction
Should have never let you always get on top
When you were on the flip, I was on the flop
I should have seen a warning sign, an early detection
Every night you left me with a stiff erection
Well I don’t know if I committed a crime
All I know is that I’m doing the time
And I don’t know if I can take another day
So listen to me girl, ‘cause this is all I have to say
Come on and poison me with your lethal injection
I wanna overdose on your wicked love
If I gotta die, then I wanna die
With a smile on my face…and a tear in my eye
This silly little twisted love song almost never saw the light of day, but from the very first time we played it in front of a live audience, it became our most popular song. So I guess the moral of this story is that you just never know what it is going to catch the attention of the viewing public!
SHE’S MINE
Well I know she might be a little bit round
Wears her dress too close to the ground
But she’s the only girl I ever found
That didn’t have a few tricks up her sleeve
She treats me right, that’s all I ask
Lovin’ my baby’s such an easy task
She cooks my food, brings it to my bed
When she walks her walk, drives me out of my head
Oh she’s mine
She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
Well I know she might be a little but lazy
I know she might be a little bit crazy
I know she might be a little bit dumb
But when I call her name, here she comes
Here she comes and she’s never late
Picks up the tab when we’re out on a date
Drives me home when I can’t see straight
She’s my Number One Heavyweight
Oh she’s mine
She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
She got long black hair, eyes that stare
Pretty little face, leather and lace
When she wants my love she gives me a wink
She got everything but the kitchen sink
Yeah she might be round but she sure is sweet
Lovin’ my baby is such a treat
She’s so fine she can’t be beat
She’s all mine from her head to her feet
Oh she’s mine
She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
Well I know she ain’t no number ten
But she always comes back, again and again
And I know she ain’t no number nine
But she sends a shiver up and down my spine
And I know she ain’t no number eight
But she’s cu
te enough to be jailbait
She makes me feel like I’m up in Heaven
She must be a number eleven
Oh she’s mine
She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
Well I know she might be a little bit tall
Her head is in the bed, her feets is in the hall
I know she might be a little bit fat
But I say fat that’s where it’s at
She picks me up when I’m down and out
When she wiggles her ass I jump and shout
She’s built just like a bump on a log
But when she starts to shake I yell ooh hot dog
She’s mine
Oh She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
She got long black hair, eyes that stare
Pretty little face, leather and lace
When she wants my love she gives me a wink
She got everything but the kitchen sink
Yeah she might be round but she sure is sweet
Lovin’ my baby is such a treat
She’s so fine she can’t be beat
She’s all mine from her head to her feet
Oh she’s mine
She’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She ain’t much but I know she’s mine
She’s mine, mine, mine, all mine
Whatever “it” is, I say what the hell, let’s do it.
LET’S DO IT
Come on girl we got nothing to lose
It’s the perfect crime we won’t leave no clues
I’ll be in and out before the morning comes
Your daddy won’t know because he’s much too dumb
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
You say go and I’ll say when
If we have the time we’ll do it again
So put out the lights and we’ll dance by the moon
Little girl you’re growing up much too soon
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
You work all day and you sleep all night
You got no time for fun now that ain’t right
Your idea of having a time
Ain’t no fun, let me show you mine
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
You study your books and you never come out
Come on and let me show you what it’s all about
Don’t act shy ‘cause there ain’t no way
That look in your eyes gives you right away
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
You say you can’t stand the pressure that you get from your peers
They’re calling you a saint, they’re calling you a square
But you got your own mind, you can do what you want
You got a cute little body that you love to flaunt
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
All the boys whistle, all the boys stare
But you walk right by with your nose in the air
You only live once but you always think twice
If you want the goods you gotta pay the price
So let’s do it (let’s do it)
Let’s do it right now
Because we might not get a second chance
In many ways I think that we are no better than animals in the wild, and so sometimes you just have to release the beast from within to get what you want.
LOVE IS LIKE AN ANIMAL
You act so civilized
Well who you trying to fool?
When I get you all alone
You let your passion rule
You got the instincts of a predator
Your eyes they cast a spell
Add a little bit of love into the mix
And who can really tell…
…what goes on behind that bedroom door
But there’s one thing that I know for sure…
It’s like the venom of a viper
Like the stinging of a bee
Love is like an animal
Just dying to be free
You’re as cunning as a fox
Hunting rabbits in the snow
How you got so clever
I will never know
You got the instincts of a killer
You’re as dangerous as hell
Add a little bit of love into the mix
And who can really tell…
…what goes on behind that bedroom door
But there’s one thing that I know for sure…
It’s like the venom of a viper
Like the stinging of a bee
Love is like an animal
Just dying to be free
Love is like an animal
Just dying to be free
I’m dying…I’m dying…I’m just dying to be…free
A man in my head said “follow your dreams”.
LIVING IN A DREAM
People say I’m crazy, in a world of my own
My eyes are looking out at some faraway home
But I know I’m a dreamer and that’s where you’re wrong
You’re lost in yourself while I’m lost in a song
I’m just living in a dream
Night and day
I’m just living in a dream
And I’m wasted away
I make it through the day but I worry every night
I wake up from this dream and I’m shaking from the fright
And it gets me to wondering what tomorrow might bring
But I get a new hope when the morning birds sing
I’m just living in a dream
Night and day
I’m just living in a dream
And I’m wasting away
People talk about me all over town
Everybody and his brother wants to put me down
But a man in my head said to follow your dreams
Do it while you can, if you know what I mean
I’m just living in a dream
Night and day
I’m just living in a dream
And I’m wasted away
People say I’m crazy, in a world of my own
My eyes are looking out at some faraway home
But I know that there’s hope, and that’s where you’re wrong
I know where we are and where we belong
I know we can make it if we all stand strong
We can come together if we all sing along
I’m just living in a dream
Night and day
I’m just living in a dream
And I’m wasting, I’m wasted, I’m just wasting away
It’s such a long way down...
TAILSPIN
Smoke and booze
For years on end
I never broke
But I always bend
Pills and powder
A stranger’s touch
To me it just don’t matter much
And I’m going into this tailspin
Another washed-up has-been
It’s such a long way down
When your screams don’t make a sound
Time slips by
Can’t make it stop
The more you reach
The more you drop
When you lose someone you care for
You lose a part of you
Been so long, been in a trance
But what else can you do
And I’m going into this tailspin
Another washed-up has-been
It’s such a long way down
When your screams don’t make a sound
Nothing makes it better
It only makes you high
And when you finally hit the ground
It only makes you cry
You wake up feeling empty
Your head is in a fog
I guess you can’t expect much better
When you treat yourself just like a dog
And I’m going into this tailspin
Another washed-up has-been
It’s such a long way down
When your screams don’t make a sound
It might not be drugs, it might not be booze, but one way or another we are all addicted to something.
TOMORROW’S FIX
I remember it was just a game
A sweet sensation running through my veins
I could feel that tingling in my brain
Never thought nothing could ease my pain
Smoking dope and popping pills
Cocaine curing all my ills
They say if you do it once, you’ll do it again
I need you now more than a friend
‘Cause there’s a monkey on my back, and it feels like a ton of brinks
How am I gonna get tomorrow’s fix?
There’s a weight on my mind and I’m running out of tricks
How am I gonna get tomorrow’s fix?
Gimme a mirror or a spoon that I can lick
How am I gonna get tomorrow’s fix?
Steady your hand and tighten your grip
Be careful not to spill a drip
Gimme a shot and I start to improve
Like a miracle the pain has been removed
